We loved spending time along the water, exploring the area, and enjoying the relaxed feel of this little lakeshore town. It’s a great place to combine beach time, outdoor adventures, and a little wandering around town—all in one trip.

The dune ride was easily the highlight of our time in Saugatuck! It was fun, a little adventurous, and such a unique way to experience the dunes. Saugatuck is also known for its charming downtown filled with shops, restaurants, and galleries, so there’s plenty to enjoy after your outdoor adventures. Whether you come for the dunes, the shopping, or a little of both, Saugatuck makes for a fun Lake Michigan getaway.

We visited Saugatuck in the fall, which made the views from Mount Baldhead even more beautiful. We climbed the long staircase to the top, where we were rewarded with an overlook of the surrounding dunes and colorful fall trees. Afterward, we headed downtown for some window shopping and enjoyed wandering through Saugatuck’s cute shops and streets.

Want to add another adventure to your Saugatuck trip? Head into the countryside for a horseback ride through the woods. We chose Wild West Ranch in nearby Fennville and enjoyed a peaceful trail ride surrounded by nature.
Another nearby option is Rise & Ride Ranch in Allegan, which offers small, private horseback rides along wooded trails and open grassy areas. It’s also beginner- and family-friendly.

Horseback riding was such a fun way to add something different to our Saugatuck trip. We loved getting away from the busier tourist areas and enjoying a peaceful ride through the woods at Wild West Ranch. It was a memorable experience and a great addition to our fall getaway.

Spend a Fall Day at Crane’s 🍎🎃




If you’re visiting Saugatuck in the fall, consider adding a stop at Crane Orchards and Crane’s Pie Pantry Restaurant in nearby Fennville. We made a day of it with a fun wagon ride, pumpkin picking, and a stop at the restaurant, where we tried their famous Sloppy Joe. It was such a fun way to enjoy a classic Michigan fall day.

Crane’s added even more fall fun to our Saugatuck getaway. Between the wagon ride, pumpkin picking, and stopping for something to eat, there was plenty for our family to enjoy. If you love fall activities, this is an easy addition to a Saugatuck trip.
